A Pacific dialogue on religious diversity was proposed on the 28th August 2008 after a two-day meeting of Pacific academics, theologians, faith community leaders and community representatives convened by the New Zealand National Commission for UNESCO in Auckland.
Delegates identified the need to develop stronger connections with each other, to create spaces for dialogue, to broaden the conversation between and within faith traditions, and to support research and education about religions within the Pacific.

The New Zealand National Commission for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation congratulates Te Taura Whiri I te reo Maori on Maori Language Week 2008 and supports calls for a Maori Language Year.

The outstanding heritage of the Pacific was honoured this month as sites in Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea and New Caledonia were inscribed on the World Heritage List.
